Virtual to reality: comparing VR makeup looks to the real thing – featuring MAC COSMETICS, CHARLOTTE TILBURY, URBAN DECAY

With the magic of technology, came virtual reality. Since we can no longer try testers in drugstores, I tested out drugstore and high-end virtual makeup to see how good it really is!

Urban Decay – All nighter foundation in the shade 7

Reality | Virtual

I have a medium-deep complexion with a warm undertone and this foundation is full coverage with a matte finish, perfect for my oily acne prone skin. I did the try-on with makeup free skin, but the foundation had a pink undertone, and it enhanced my blemishes so it was the opposite effect. I think you’d have to try this in store, as it available in many shades.

NYX – Micro brow pencil in Espresso

Reality  | Virtual

This is my go-to brow product and I was pretty impressed by the VR comparison, going harder with the pencil would allow the shades to match. There’s so many options of brow shapes and colours to get the perfect match.

Maybelline Lash sensational in Black

Reality   | Virtual

Maybelline is my favourite for mascara and the way the virtual version separated the lashes was accurate, but I WISH it made my natural lashes that long!

Mac Lipstick in Brick-o-la

Reality

Virtual

My go-to lipstick colour is red with a brown undertone but this looks nothing like the reality, although I’m obsessed with the virtual colour!

Charlotte Tilbury – Lip Lustre in Sweet Stiletto

Virtual

Reality

I’ve been living in lipgloss in lockdown but I cant wait for the day to put on lipstick for a night out again. This one is amazing, it’s a lot more sheer in real life but colour wise it’s a great comparison.

I think Charlotte Tilbury and NYX do these virtual try-ons really well but overall I’d prefer to go to wait until lockdown is over and try these products on for myself as some of the brands don’t do the products justice. I really enjoyed doing this post, look out for my next one!

Talk to you guys soon!

New In: My lockdown purchases

Lockdown no.3 and all I do is browse ASOS for hours on end and add things to my basket that I don’t need, buy it and repeat the same process! When I see something I like online, I say to myself “I might as well buy it whilst it’s in stock because I will be able to wear it soon”. So today I am showing you what I have brought and how I style them.

By the time we get out of lockdown the weather will be slightly warmer, so I don’t think I’ll be able to rock this outfit, but I love it. The jumper was on sale for just £10 and comes with a pearl embellished brooch. I paired it with this split hem denim skirt, perfect for all seasons and chunky Chelsea boots which are so on trend.

Jumper – H&M (SIMILAR) | Skirt - ASOS | Boots – New Look | Bag – Michael Kors | Jacket – Boohoo Petite

I absolutely adored this leather look skort, its perfect for A/W or S/S and it can be dressed up or down. Paired with the same jacket but this time with a heeled boot, matching the studding to the belt and skirt.

Jumper & Belt – Primark | Skirt – Zara | Bag – Michael Kors (Out of stock) | Boots – Nasty Gal (Similar)

Teddy jackets are my absolute fave (I now have three). It’s warm, stylish and in trend season after season. This one has a boxy fit so I dressed it down with faux leather pants, a hoody peaking over the top and air forces. I have never shopped in Pull&Bear before, but I absolutely adore their youthful pieces.

Jacket Pull & Bear | Trousers – New Look petite | Hoodie – Pull & Bear | Trainers Nike

This is my favourite OOTD, it’s perfect for spring, I saw many girls in these flared pants and really wanted to try them myself but as a petite girl I needed to find the right fit. This ribbed pair are perfect to lounge around in for just £9. Teamed with my favourite Prada style bag and a body which is a cheaper dupe for the Zara one and my mcqueen trainers which I reviewed a while back.

Trousers – New look petite | Bag – Mango | Trainers Alexander McQueens | Jacket - Bershka | Bodysuit - Boohoo

My coat addiction didn’t stop at my teddy bear jacket, I purchased this in the sale after it caught my eye in store (before lockdown). It’s super oversized, cosy and stylish, which I pair with my new scarf which I treated myself to.

Jacket Zara (OOS) | Scarf - Burberry | Bag – Michael Kors (linked above)

Now that’s enough lockdown shopping from me (for now), as I am constantly avoiding going for walks because I have to wait in for a parcel. I’m a shopaholic!

Talk soon,

Study Update: From then to now – My journey in BA Fashion Marketing & Journalism

I first started blogging at 17 when I was on a journey to discovering my career within fashion, I used Blogspot as the platform to show what I was working on at college. Originally, I never wanted to go to university. I wanted to work my way up in a job after I had missed out on the chance to attend London College of Fashion.

Now, I am 23 and as it turns out... I’m in my final year at University! You would never had guessed that was coming from what I mentioned 10 seconds ago!

Randomly, I rang up my current University inquiring about availability, after seeing on their website they had clearing places. They asked me a few questions and before I knew it, I had a place as a BA Fashion marketing and journalism student. That seems pretty simple, right? Well, the real work was about to begin…

My first year was not what I thought it would be, I expected lots of partying and going wild, but it was completely opposite. Partly that was due to living at home, although on campus it did not have the ‘student party’ vibe that I thought it would - so at 21, I thought I was done with my chances of partying *crying face*.

I also did not realise that I wouldn’t be choosing my own modules. The preset course content included:

-          Fashion History

-          Journalism History

-          Practical Journalism

-          The Practices of Marketing

In year 1 the grades do not count but I still wanted to do well (basically, I turned into the ultimate geek). I felt like I was studying very little fashion and it was extremely journalism focused. I did not enjoy Journalism history as I had no idea about it... But don't we all have that ONE class?

First year taught me how to step out of my comfort zone and gain contacts, which is a requirement for journalism.

Second year was enjoyable, I gained friendships and confidence (although, I still hate class presentations) and got to choose my modules. Styling and journalism and fashion branding and journalism were my favourite as I got to learn how to be a Stylist, writing for fashion, street style photography and social media in fashion. All which will be so useful in the fashion industry. I experienced things like going to Crown and Magistrates Court to see trials allowing me to gain reporting skills, I got a trip to Paris courtesy of Drapers, invited to the GiambattistaXH&M event and competed in a fashion show!

Third year wasn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Due to the coronavirus it’s all been via zoom and at this point I’m totally ‘ZOOMED’ out! Although the perks are the amount of money saved on travel and I have come up with amazing story ideas.

I got to create my own magazine with a wonderful team, and I came up with the name, @_youngmagazine_ -  check out my articles on page 12 and 34 *squeals with excitement*.

I hope to graduate this year, throw my hat up in the air and get that Instagram pic I’ve been dreaming of without worrying about Covid, #InstagramGoals. This is only just the beginning of my journey into the world of fashion and I can’t wait to share it with you all!
